 Listening to the Senate Hearings on increasing mo' gun laws, I thought I'd almost heard agreement betwixt "Sack 'o Durbin (Tyranny)" and LaPierre (NRA) regarding Increasing Background Checks.
Radio played a soundbite that almost sounded like Durbin made the same point a LaPierre.

“You’re never going to get criminals to go through universal background checks,” LaPierre said. Instead, he added, “We’re going to make all those law-abiding people go through the system, and then we’re not going to prosecute people if they do go through them [and make false statements].”

LaPierre was stopped by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the judiciary committee chairman. As it happened, Durbin — an outspoken supporter of tighter gun laws — had the floor next. “Mr. LaPierre, that’s the point,” Durbin said, meaning that the background checks would, in theory, stop the criminals that sought to pass them. “You missed the point.”

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) interjected that background checks would mean "criminals won't go to purchase the guns, because there will be a background check! We'll stop them from the original purchase." Addressing LaPierre, Durbin said, "You missed that point completely!"

As the audience began to cheer, LaPierre interrupted Durbin, "Senator, I think you missed the point!" As tensions grew higher, committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) was forced to bang his gavel and call for order.

So, after the video review, it appears that the two sides view the equation like this:

NRA; Increasing background checks will do little good since they only affect the law-abiding citizens. Criminals won't submit to background checks and will procure guns from illegal channels.

Senatorial Statist; Criminals won't submit to background checks so they will stop trying to purchase guns! 

Which opinion seems like a more realistic world-view to you?

The bill includes banning most semi-auto handguns, rifles, and shotguns, plus mandatory registration of almost all remaining semi-autos with the Illinois State Police. If passed it would be a felony for having more than one mag over 10 rnds. Thats 3 to 7 years in jail!

IL House Judiciary Committee Chair Elaine Nekritz just announced that there would be no vote on SB2899 or any other assault weapons ban during the lame duck session!!


Rest up, folks, and lets get ready to fight this fight again when the new 98th General Assembly in sworn in next week!

This fight ain't over folks. The IL Dems will keep pushing. The only thing stopping them at this point is the lack of votes.

Chicago Mayor Calls for Statewide Registration
of All Handguns!

In his zeal to keep law-abiding citizens defenseless, Rahm Emmanuel now wants to add to the already burdensome process of owning a handgun - not just for residents in Chicago but for EVERYONE in the entire state of Illinois.

Mayors cannot introduce legislation but, in keeping with former mayors of Chicago like Richard "Ban All Guns But Mine" Daley, Emmanuel is expected to send his proposal to Springfield via the representatives and senators from Chicago.

Rahm's proposal would require statewide registration of all handguns. To add insult to injury the registration process would include a hefty fee of $65 for EACH handgun! John writes, "They were serious women, taxpaying women, law-abiding moms and sisters and daughters and friends. And they're the women who have the audacity to believe that the Constitution applies to them, too, even in Illinois."

First ... to answer Oleg's question, Why do IL legislators side with criminals?
Cuz "birds of a feather flock together" is the short answer. Plus ya can't be a Savior without a VICTIM to save. Politicians want you to believe that they can solve your problems. In other words, they lie.

Kurt at the St. Louis Examiner writes an interesting article titled Illinois stands alone in banning armed self-defense. In it he quotes the Mighty Quinn espousing the need to keep our streets safe from hidden handguns (concealed carry) “We must ensure the safety of our neighborhoods, and allowing concealed carry does not advance that goal,”
There's a few things our esteemed (appointed via succession/Blago impeachment) governor fails to admit;

• Illinois is full of concealed carry. Criminal Concealed Carry. What we lack is legal CCW
• Government can never ensure safe neighborhoods. That is determined by the daily actions of you and your neighbors.

Legislators can do only one thing. Write laws. Thats it. Nothing more. They can't ensure your safety. They can't promote your well being.  When your only tool is writing law, every solution to societal problems becomes one of just writing the correct mix of laws. Herein lies the problem. The natural Law of Unintended Consequences trumps man-made legislation ever' single time.

Illinois statehood was ratified in 1818. We've had almost 200 years of the political class legislating our general welfare, commerce and all other aspects of daily life. The system as practiced in Illinois appears to be corrupt and rotten to the core.
