Point 'n Shoot drills

There's a number of close quarter drills out there.
CarTeach0 lays one out in detail. He includes all the safety parameters. Follow 'em.

While there's no substitute for live fire drills, I got something close.
Plastic bullets.
Loaded with magnum pistol primers, NO POWDER.

Target 45 Plastic Bullets, Made by the Good Ol' Boys in Lewiston

The point of impact will be different than lead. However, for learning the draw, weapon presentation, and firing at contact range, it's the cat's meow. POI isn't different enough at those ranges.

45 Plastic Bullet vs. 185 grain JHP

Bonus is that you can set up a home range. With the proper backstop, the bullets can be collected and reused. A few large scraps of carpet, hung from the rafters of the garage, a cheap tarp doubled over a line behind the carpet, and you've got yourself a backstop.

Don't minimize safety with these rounds. Use all the normal safety gear; eyes and ears. The danger of ricochets also needs to be addressed. These primer powered rounds will still reach 500 fps and can cause injury up to 75 feet.

Investment in Precious Metal

Most folks think Gold, Silver or perhaps even Platinum.
Shooters think Brass and Lead.

I'm in the midst of reorganizing the reloading corner.
Part of that is inventorying whats on hand.

I've still got boxes of bullets that were bought decades ago.
It's interesting how much those boxes of lowly lead have appreciated over the years.

Lead.

For example;
1992 – 44 cal., 240 gr. SWC, box of 500, $27.75
2012 – 44 cal., 240 gr. SWC, box of 500, $57.99

1992 – 44 cal., 240 gr. JHP, box of 100, $12.95
2012 – 44 cal., 240 gr. JHP, box of 100, $23.49

Ok, so about doubled in 20 years. Or looking at the other side of the coin, my dollars are worth about half.

Sellin' like Hotcakes. $3,600 Hotcakes.

Ohio Ordnance Works has a 40 day sales promotion going on. Each day something different.
Today's special was received in my email before 5:30 a.m.

As of 13:50 CST, they were sold out. Now granted, quantities were limited. Email said only 15 available. Graphic said 10. Whichevah! Either way, considering the price point, that's brisk.

Thompsons

Who doesn't love Tommy Guns?
I have ever since I watched Sarge wield one in episodes of Combat

Don't think I've ever seen so many Thompsons together at once.
Still remember my first Tommy Gun. I ruled the neighborhood battles with it.

Looked and sounded just like the real McCoy ...

Hoplophobe Extraordinaire

"People behave better in our society when they know somebody is watching," he said.

That there quote is from Bill Jenkins. "Not your classic gun control lobbyist". No ... he's also a professional victim. Really. Mr. Jenkins lost his teenage son to a homicidal thug. As a father, I can only imagine the pain of that loss.

Bill Jenkins
However, the fact is Mr. Jenkins has focused on the least important component in that equation.
He feels all warm 'n fuzzy with Mayor Emmanual's proposal regarding registration of privately owned handguns.

So again;
"People behave better in our society when they know somebody is watching," he said.
Ummm, Bill? No.

Some people will behave differently under observation. Some, however, just don't seem to give a rodents sphincter. As proof, I present every "Stop 'n Rob" security cam vid on YouTube. Or, take every bank robbery security cam photo that the police release. See? The moment that the balloon goes up, the moment that a criminal decides to act, the written word holds no sway. They know they're doing wrong. They know they're being recorded. They may be caught. They may be punished. They don't care.

Get it Bill? When it really counts, the law is useless. If the criminal gets caught, then maybe.

Glock Trial set to Rock

Theft. Racketeering. Extradition. Cayman Island bank accounts.
All set to roll in a Georgia courtroom this week. Former Glock CEO faces multiple charges.

That Glock in your safe is now a link to a story of International Arms Dealer Intrigue.
I smell a made-for-tv movie.  Any bets on CEO time served?

Bonus Vid! The Mas on Business Week! Demonstrating the diff between 18 shots through a Glock and a S&W revolver.

Least. Favorite. Chore.

It always seems like a step backwards to pull rounds apart.

Out of spec!
As a final quality control ... I run all loaded rounds across the digi scale. Any that fall out of the predetermined weight range, get pulled. This lot of 16 was culled from a run size of about 250. Found five squibs in the cull. And that's what makes the drudgery worth it.

Suicide Booth; It's Time has Come

We need to accommodate those for whom this need is difficult to accomplish privately.

Affordable, Private and Convenient
It's time for the suicide booth. In every town. If you have the choice between Quick and Painless or Slow and Horrible, choose Slow and Horrible.

Good Choice!

Unarmed? Never!

h/t Northwest Gun Magazine

Illinois citizens/subjects (take yer pick) are offered few legal tools for self defense.
Fortunately, the most powerful weapon available to anyone, anywhere, is still legal.
Not that you're encouraged to use it. For most folks it's carried (concealed) betwixt the ears.

Got brains?

NWGun explores some options when going forth in a condition that's nominally viewed "unarmed".

what you see depends on your mindset
Use your brains. Or not. Your choice.

Render unto Caesar Registration ...

h/t Illinois Carry

Chicago Mayor Calls for Statewide Registration
of All Handguns!

http://www.illinoiscarry.com/

In his zeal to keep law-abiding citizens defenseless, Rahm Emmanuel now wants to add to the already burdensome process of owning a handgun - not just for residents in Chicago but for EVERYONE in the entire state of Illinois.

Mayors cannot introduce legislation but, in keeping with former mayors of Chicago like Richard "Ban All Guns But Mine" Daley, Emmanuel is expected to send his proposal to Springfield via the representatives and senators from Chicago.

Rahm's proposal would require statewide registration of all handguns. To add insult to injury the registration process would include a hefty fee of $65 for EACH handgun! Certificates of registration would have to be renewed every 5 years with a fee of $25 per gun. (for more details go to IllinoisCarry.com)

DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!

Make Sure Your Voice is Heard!

MAYOR of Mordor-on-the-Lake ... a city ... seeks to rule the State.
In so doing reveals his true appetite and intentions.

Addendum; Just heard a sound-bite from Rahm via the a.m. dial; "You already buy a title for an auto, you already buy a title for a motorcyclye, you already buy a title for a boat. I'm not asking you to do anything you're not already doing."

Really? That's EXACTLY what you're doing. Liar.

Want ... Not need

h/t The Firearm Blog

Chiappa Arms 1887 T-series 12 gauge
Handy. Deadly. Terminator-y
Had a pistol grip on my Mossberg 590 for a short while. It's all good til it comes to the shootin' part. Mebbe my wrists are just too girly-like and sensitive ... but 3" 12 gauge rounds are a bit punishing with a pistol grip. Aiming? Ummm ... nevermind. Beyond contact range? Doesn't appear to even have a bead on the tube.

Much mo' practical model
If'n I just had to have an antiquated action 12 gauge, I'd take the full stock version. Appears to even have  a bead for sighting!

Besides ... the pistol grip version is incomplete without the Harley Davidson Fat Boy.

Illinois Illegal Concealed Carry

h/t No Lawyers - Only Guns and Money
An Obama appointed judge has dismissed a case seeking to challenge ILL's unconstitutional restrictions on second amendment rights.

I've pointed out before that plenty of ILL residents carry concealed firearms. Just. Not. Legally.

... Some Unlawful Use of a Weapon (UUW) charges are a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in county jail and a fine of $2,500. However, the vast majority of weapons charges or Unlawful Use of Weapon (UUW) charges are felonies.
Some go beyond carrying, turning their neighborhoods into active free fire zones.

UIC.edu map

That gets ya into Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm territory. Once ya cross into this zone, the price can get heavy.

... Class X felony for which the sentence shall be a term of imprisonment of no less than 10 years and not more than 45 years ...
Yet ... there's no shortage of mooks that willingly, casually and regularly go there.

Second City Cop usually has a round-up of shootings in and around Chicago.

Which leads me to believe that the laws only affect the law abiding.
